Let’s start with defining – What is Memory?

According to Wikipedia: Memory is the faculty of the brain by which data or information is encoded, stored, and retrieved when needed. It is the retention of information over time for the purpose of influencing future action. Wikipedia

Here are 3 ways to improve your memory naturally.

(1) Eat Oily fish or take Fish Oil Supplements to improve memory

Fish oil is rich in the omega-3 fatty acids, these healthy fats are important for overall health and can lower the risk of heart disease, reduce inflammation, relieve stress and anxiety, and slow mental decline.  That’s not all supplementing with Omega-3 fatty acids may improve memory.

Fish is a particularly rich source of omega-3 research shows that omega-3 fatty acids are particularly beneficial for brain health. Especially cold water “fatty fish” such as tuna, sardines, salmon, halibut, trout, herring, and mackerel.

(2) Give your brain a workout and increase brain power

As a child your brain develops in many different stages, by the time you’ve reached adulthood, your brain has developed millions of neural pathways (consider it like motor way’s) that help you process and recall information or data quickly, resolve familiar and unfamiliar problems, and accomplish habitual chores with a least mental effort. You can increase brain power by sticking always to these same paths, give your brain the stimulation it needs to keep growing and developing.

The best way to increase memory, like muscular strength developed in the gym, requires you to “use it or lose it.”  The more you exercise your brain, the better and faster you’ll be able to process information and recall memory. But not all activities are equal. Try to change routines and challenge the brain into developing new neural pathways.

(3) Keep Your Brain Hydrated to get the memory boost

Brain training and what you eat isn’t only the things that affect your memory, it’s also what and how much you drink.   Surely you have heard of ‘Drink 8 Glasses of water daily’ well now you have another reason to hydrate your body and mind.  Water might just be the best brain tonic, as the brain is 73% water and it takes only 2% dehydration to diminish your memory, attention, and other cognitive skills.

With just simple exercise, you can lose 10% of your body’s water after a physical workout. Mild dehydration causes measurable brain shrinkage with adverse effects on concentration, alertness, and short-term memory.

How much do you need to drink? The “8 glasses per day” There are many other suggestions, but let’s face it 8 is minimum if you can drink more than that, great you’re doing well.

Improving your memory and brainpower isn’t possible with some kind of quick fix or memory pill.  The only way is with the following information above and actively taking care of your health, the mind and emotional wellbeing.  Let’s face it, if you are stressed all the time and tired, there is no chance your memory will be sharp.  Or that your brain will function at optimum levels, take care of your brain and body to get the most out of life.
